Antoni Gaudí

Today we had another sightseeing excursion through the streets of Barcelona.

This time we visited the world famous parc of Gaul. The trip to Park Gaul was in interesting one. We arrived at a train station which looked like a short walk away according to my Loney Planet guide. The walked ended up being a 30min walk uphill referencing a terrible map written in small font that didn't really mean anything.

We arrived at the backend entract to Park Gaul which involved a 40mtr hike up the biggest slope I've ever walked. Felt like I was walking up a 70 degree hill.

Walking towards the summit we were hoping to see rich green pastures, flourishing plants, unique flowers. Instead we were greeted by dirt. Lots of it. Dirt paths, met by dirt rock. We reached the summit of the hill which had man made rock formation of concrete crosses on top of a circular rock stair case. It was a great view but exhausting at the same time. After about 10min´s though, we were quite bored and disappointed as everyone had been raving on about how good this park was.


We walked down from the summit hoping for something better. After a 10 min walk downhill we finally found what everyone had been raving on about. The Gaudi entrance to the park. It's astounding to see how creative Gaudi was and his ability to get such things created. I think if anybody else was to draw something on paper these days the plans would get rejected, but it's great to see how effective experimentation and creativity can be.

We didn't enter the two houses at the entrance. Living on scarce money for the year you can't afford such luxuries. But we gathered enough of the idea by standing outside. Looking at Gaudi's work throughout Barcelona you begin to gather a real fantasy/fairy tale influence towards his creations. It's almost like living in a fairy tale seeing his creations. His works for me have what made Barcelona what it is.Next up we walk to La Segrada Familia.
