Since we were in Madrid we thought we would live the experience by having a little outing for lunch. We found a quite large restaurant café along one of the main streets. They had well priced specials and was a typical Spanish eatery.
Hoping for something different we were once again welcomed with typical customer service. Waiting for 30 minutes as we sat staring at two waiters one standing at the bar doing nothing as we looked and waived for him to come over. Eventually a waitress came along as we eventually walked up to her to ask her if we could order.
We each ordered a three course meal, which all came at different times between Katrina and I. My starter was not bad, Canalones, while Katrina ordered a vegetable soup which has been doused in about 3 table spoons of Salt or overloaded with stock cubes so much to the point that it was unbearable. There was actually a couple that sat beside us that unknowingly ordered the same meal but as her main meal. It got the stage where the woman beside us formally complained to the manager. If it weren’t thanks to Katrina who also agreed with the woman which she complained the lady would have only given a shrug of the shoulders, which is a typical Spanish symbol to do as if they don’t care. My main meal consisted of a cold steak and chips as if they were picked out of the rejected French Fries bin at McDonalds.
Katrina’s desert also encompassed a long piece of black hair.
After the terrible experience of both service and food we resorted to a formal complaint to the manager. He like many other staff in the customer service industry or hospitality gave us the “It’s not my problem” shrug attitude. Luckily for us there was another French couple that were sitting on the opposite side and witnessed when the other couple formally complained about there meal. With the elderly couple looking upon the manager’s reaction to Katrina’s complaint which was all in impressive Spanish we scored a free 1 meal for free, which really should have been both meals for free. That left the both of us neglecting Spanish service and food for the rest of our time here.
