Venice - The city of love

After our little trip in Verona we caught another short train ride to Venice, yes Venice. The city of love, art, water, and very expensive outings.


Our first impression of Venice was that a definitely lived up to all the hype. The bustling market streets filled with tourists, the artists that lined the malls, the glass art, it was one of the most unique places we had been so far as it was totally different.

We managed to find a nice little comfortable bed and breakfast for only 40 Euros a night on the island. A price of which is very cheap considering that we were on the main island.

Venice is a beautiful and amazing city during the day. With over 118 islands I couldn’t have imagined just a spectacular city landscape. The hustle and bustle of tourists mixed with arts and crafts all contributes towards the cities world renowned reputation.


The cities primary feature besides the infamous Gondolas is Saint Marcos square. One of the most expensive squares any world wide traveller may come across. A coffee alone will set you back more than 8 Euro’s. Anywhere you may go in the city someone will be attempting to get money out of your one way or the other. Even so far as to charge you at least 1 Euro for a take away coffee.

The Glass Maker

Venice is renowned for its arts in Glass works. I never realized how glass sculptures were made up until Venice. What we may see everyday in a store we truly take for granted as the sweat and intricacy behind creating a piece of glass artwork is well reserved for masters of the craft.

At Night

Waling around Venice city at night the city is truly a ghost town and looks as if it is a different city in itself with graffiti staining all over the closed roller doors. While in Saint Marcos square Katrina and I came across an array of classical music quartet playing in the restaurants. If you can’t afford to sit at these restaurants that usually started from a minimum of 100 Euros for three course me, you can just stand outside like many others do, just like we did. Fortunately at the same time there was also a café that closed but also had it’s tables and seats located outside.


If ever in Italy Venice is a highly recommended must visit. Can’t imagine staying there more than a few days though as one could run out of sites to see. But you can also get lost in the maze of islands and canals that flow throughout the island, there’s always something new to discover when doing that.
